Online tutor FAQs for parents
The questions parents ask us most often, answered plainly. If talking it through would be easier, book a free assessment call and we will help you decide what to do next.
Results vary by individual. Outcomes depend on attendance, effort, homework completion and exam conditions. No grades are guaranteed.
No. What we promise is careful teaching and a structured plan. The result itself depends on attendance, effort, homework completion and the conditions on exam day.
Online only, and always one-to-one, which is how we can teach students UK and international. We do not offer in-person lessons. We teach 09:00–21:00 UK time (Europe/London), seven days a week, and we find a time that suits your timezone inside those hours.
Lessons cost from £25 per hour (GBP). We confirm the exact figure after the free assessment call, once we know your child’s current level, their target grade, how much needs re-teaching and how long there is until the exams.
For most students, 1–2 lessons a week works best. If time before the exams is short, we may suggest a more intensive plan.
Yes. We work to whichever exam board your child is sitting, with plenty of exam-style questions and past papers.
Many of the students we teach feel the same way. Lessons stay calm and well organised, confidence grows from small successes, and exam technique is built up step by step.
Usually, yes. After a lesson the tutor normally sets work that takes around 15–30 minutes. It might be exam questions, a worksheet, practice questions, retrieval exercises or a task that reinforces what was just taught. We can change how much is set after talking it through with you and your child. The tutor checks it and uses it to spot what needs more explanation or practice in the next lessons.
To cancel or rearrange a session without charge, please give us more than 24 hours’ notice before it is due to start. Sessions cancelled less than 24 hours before they are due to start are normally charged in full, because the time has been set aside and cannot be offered to anyone else at short notice. If your child is ill, or something urgent comes up, tell us. We will rearrange the session at no extra cost rather than charge you. If we need to cancel a session, we will rearrange it or refund it in full, whichever you prefer. Separately, if you booked online or by message you have 14 days from booking to cancel and get your money back, whatever the reason; if you asked us to start lessons inside those 14 days, we will refund what you have paid less the value of any lessons already taught. To cancel, email hello@sophwick.com. You do not need to give a reason.
Yes. We teach KS3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) one-to-one online in Maths, English and Science. The price, teaching hours and process are the same as for GCSE: from £25 per hour (GBP), confirmed after a free 15-minute assessment call. Lessons follow what your child is covering at school and build the foundations for GCSE.
Possibly. Book a short assessment call and we will tell you whether it is a good fit and whether a tutor is free.
- Students chasing strong grades who are ready to put in steady weekly effort
- Parents who want a clear plan and progress they can actually see
- Students who do well with a calm, encouraging tutor who still expects a lot
Progress usually comes quickest from 1–2 lessons a week with a little practice in between. Steady, regular work does far more than a last-minute rush.
